John Poole (1786–1872), an English playwright, was one of the earliest and best known 19th century playwrights of the comic drama, the farce. Paul Pry is considered his most notable work,[1][2] while Hamlet Travestie, performed as a burlesque,[3] was the first Shakespeare parody since the Restoration.
